About Rolex Daytona
In 1963, Rolex introduced the first Cosmograph Daytona, known as Reference 6239. This model featured a tachymeter scale on the bezel and was powered by a manually wound movement. The association between Rolex Daytona and motorsports began when actor Paul Newman started wearing one during his racing career in the late 1960s. This led to the nickname “Paul Newman” being associated with certain vintage Daytonas.
In 1988, Rolex introduced self-winding (automatic) movements into their Daytona watches, providing enhanced convenience for wearers. In recent years, Rolex transitioned from using modified Zenith El Primero movements to developing in-house calibres specifically for the Daytona collection.
In 2023, Rolex made a significant advancement by unveiling their inaugural open case back design with the release of the Rolex Platinum Daytona 126506.
